Packed ourselves a lunch and set off to Cape Le Grand for
the day for some sightseeing, fishing, sunbaking and a bit of swimming. What a glorious day and a spectacular
spot. Unfortunately on the way to Cape
Le grand there were kilometres & kilometres of burnt out tree plantations
which is hard to get your brain around.
There were just so many trees burnt and luckily a few houses that had
fire just about right up to their front door and were not burnt. It must have been terrible being here when
all that was going on. Even now after a short time the trees have started to
burst back into life with green shoots around the base of some of them, that
part is at least good to see. Arrived at
the National Park at Cape Le Grand and did a bit of a tourist drive, firstly to
Hellfire Beach which was stunning, and then on towards Thistle Cove. At Thistle Cove there was a story about a
whispering stone which was quite interesting.
Then it was on towards Lucky Beach where we parked the car on the beach
and the boys went for a fish while Joy and I went for a long walk and then a
lay on the beach to have a bit of a read. Between Hellfire Beach & Thistle
cove we passed a rocky outcrop called Frenchman Peak where there were some
people right up the top, made me dizzy just looking at them. When we were on
our way home we called in to have a look at the beach at Cape Le Grand itself,
this is the only camping at the moment with 12 spots available to camp at. Unfortunately they were all full and if you
want to bring the caravans down here to camp you need to be at the gate at
6.00am and hope that someone is leaving.
Not a good system I think.
Frenchman Peak
People right up the top......not for me
Parked the car on the beach at Lucky Bay where the Kangaroos are much too friendly for my liking, they come right up to you and although there are signs everywhere warning not to feed them everyone does so they can take pictures.
