Friday 19th February ( Esperance – Thunder 1902)

Not a good start to the day.  Wayne has noticed while packing up that the 12 volt cable for the fridge is missing.  Looks like it may have been taken when his petrol tank was stolen the other night.  Really not a good feeling but at least it is only a cable and cheaply replaced.  Yesterday while we were packing up I noticed a heap of ants on the Waeko and on further inspection when we pulled the cover off there was quite a nest there.  It does appear that they may have been setting up house for quite some time, all gone now. We had a little rain during the night but this morning it is lovely and warm although still a touch windy. Heading up towards Hyden today to have a look at Wave Rock, we have been there before but this is the first time for Joy & Wayne. 25degrees as we head into Ravensthorpe after having our MT at Munglinup opposite the roadhouse. (62w) Stopped to take a picture of an old truck balancing precariously on a mound of dirt or a small mountain, not sure which, approx. 20km north of Lake King, looked pretty funny though. Have managed to find our camp for tonight behind Holt Rock, we are tucked away right at the back and I have decided to call this camp “Thunder 1902” reason being that the thunder during the night was incredible and just kept rolling on for minutes at a time. Didn’t see a soul until a B Double went up the dirt road 200metres from us at 8.00am in the morning.  We all went for a walk to the top of Holt rock which has a rock wall built all around the edge of the rock to form a catchment area.  Very dry on Friday night but not the same on Saturday when Barry went for a walk to have a look at the result of all the rain we had last night. Incredible.
